The history of the water flosser dates back to ancient times, despite being considered an innovative oral care tool in modern society.

As early as 3000 BCE, ancient Indians were known to use a device called "Dantakaustha" to clean their mouths. This device, resembling the modern water flosser, involved rinsing the teeth and oral cavity by pouring water from a container into the mouth.

In the 19th century, with advancements in medicine and science, there was an increased focus on oral health, leading to various methods being explored for cleaning teeth and gums. One such method involved using water flow to cleanse the mouth, although it did not immediately gain widespread use.

It wasn't until the 20th century that water flossers began to gain prominence with advancing technology. The earliest water flosser was introduced by Woodpecker company in 1962, but its design was complex and cumbersome to use. Subsequently, with technological advancements, more portable and user-friendly water flossers began to emerge, gradually gaining widespread adoption.

Today, the water flosser has become an essential tool in oral care, with many households equipped with this device. With continuous technological advancements, the functionality and effectiveness of water flossers continue to improve, providing people with more comprehensive and efficient oral care solutions.
